Lash Lift Gone Wrong in Brisbane? Here's How We Can Help Fix Damaged Lashes

Lash lift failure
*This is NOT OUR WORK

If you're searching for help with a lash lift gone wrong in Brisbane, you're in the right place.

A lash lift that goes wrong is more distressing than most people expect.

What should have been a simple, low-maintenance treatment leaves you with lashes that feel dry, look frizzy, or sit at an angle you never asked for.

And if it happened at another salon, you might not know where to turn or whether anything can even be done.

Every year we get messages from clients asking "can my lashes be fixed?"

The honest answer is:

sometimes yes, sometimes no. It depends entirely on the condition of your lashes.

At Mai Lashes Brisbane, we see a small number of clients each year who come to us in exactly this situation. This guide explains how we approach it, what we can realistically help with, and what we're honest about when the answer is to wait rather than treat.

Start With a Photo Before You Book

Start With a Photo Before You Book

The first thing we ask for is a photo of your lashes as they are right now.

We can't make a definitive assessment from a photo alone, but it tells us a great deal about where things stand. The degree of frizz, the direction the lashes are sitting, and the overall condition of the lash line all help us understand what we're working with before you come in.

If the photo suggests the lashes are in a state where further treatment could make things worse, we'll tell you that upfront. We'd rather be honest at this stage than have you come in for a consultation that leads nowhere.

If the photo looks like something we can work with, we'll invite you in for a consultation before anything else happens.

What the Consultation Looks Like

The consultation is a proper in-person assessment, not a formality before jumping straight into treatment.

We look at the lash up close, assess the texture and strength of the hair, and talk through what happened at your previous appointment as far as you know.

This gives us the clearest possible picture of what caused the problem and what the lashes can handle next.

There's no pressure to book anything on the day. The consultation exists so that we can give you an honest recommendation, whatever that turns out to be.

When a Lash Lift Goes Wrong: How We Fix and Repair Damaged Lashes in Brisbane

Fixing Your Lashes

If your lashes are damaged but still have enough strength to handle a gentle chemical treatment, a corrective lash lift is possible.

At Mai Lashes Brisbane, we use a cysteamine-based system for all our lash lift treatments. Without getting technical, cysteamine is one of the gentler options available in professional lash lifting. It works more gradually than older-style systems, which makes it a more considered choice when the lashes are already in a compromised state.

The corrective lift follows the same steps as a standard lash lift, but the goal is different. Rather than adding dramatic curl, we're working to relax the over-curl and bring the lashes back into a more natural, wearable position. The processing time is kept minimal and monitored carefully throughout.

After the corrective treatment, we always finish with Style & Coat, our brow and lash coating serum. When lashes are treated with a lifting solution twice within a short period, they need protection and moisture more than ever. Style & Coat forms a light protective coating over each lash and helps maintain moisture without any rinsing needed.

We ask every client who has a corrective lift to use it consistently at home as part of their daily aftercare.

When We Recommend Waiting First

Time Wait

For lashes that are significantly damaged but still have some length and integrity, we sometimes recommend a period of conditioning before any corrective treatment takes place.

In these cases, we suggest using ADVANCED.byK, our lash and brow serum, for 2 to 3 weeks before coming back in.

ADVANCED.byK supports the condition of the lash during its natural growth cycle. Giving the lashes a few weeks to strengthen before any further chemical treatment reduces the risk of additional damage and gives the corrective lift a better chance of working well.

After this conditioning period, we reassess the lashes and, if they're ready, proceed with a gentle corrective lift using our cysteamine-based system, followed by Style & Coat.

We always discuss this approach with clients in advance so there are no surprises.

A corrective lift after significant damage involves more steps than a standard appointment, and we want you to understand what we're doing and why before we begin.

When We Say No

There are cases where we look at the photo and know, before you even come in, that further treatment isn't the right answer.

If the lashes are so fragile that applying any more solution would risk breaking them entirely, the kindest thing we can do is tell you that clearly.

Attempting a corrective lift on lashes in that condition would likely make things worse, and we're not willing to do that.

In those situations, we'll explain what we're seeing and why we're recommending against treatment. If you'd like to support recovery at home while you wait for the lashes to grow out naturally, we're happy to recommend ADVANCED.byK as a daily serum to use in the meantime.

The affected lashes will shed as part of your natural lash cycle, typically within 6 to 8 weeks, and the new lashes growing in will not carry any damage from what happened previously.

What to Do Right Now If Your Lashes Are Damaged

▼ In the first few days after a bad lash lift:

  • Don't rub or pull at the lashes, even if they feel uncomfortable

  • Avoid getting the lashes wet more than necessary and pat dry very gently rather than rubbing with a towel

  • Skip mascara and eye makeup on the lash line while the lashes are in a fragile state

  • Avoid AHAs, BHAs, and retinol around the eye area

▼ Ongoing care while you wait or recover:

  • Use a nourishing lash serum daily to support the condition of the lash

  • Be gentle when cleansing around the eye area

  • Avoid further chemical treatments until the lashes have had time to recover

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions About Failed Lash Perms

Q. Can you fix lashes that have been damaged or over-processed at another salon?

A. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It genuinely depends on the current condition of the lashes. The best first step is always to send us a photo so we can assess what we're working with. If a fix or repair is possible, we'll let you know what that looks like. If it isn't, we'll be honest about that too and explain what we'd recommend instead.

Q. My lashes are frizzy after a lash lift at another salon. Can you fix them?

A. It depends on the condition of the lashes. The best first step is to send us a photo so we can assess where things stand. From there we'll let you know honestly whether a corrective treatment is an option, whether we'd recommend a conditioning period first, or whether the lashes need time to recover naturally before any treatment is appropriate.

Q. How do I send you a photo?

A. DM us on Instagram @mailashesbrisbane with a clear photo of your lashes in natural light. We'll get back to you as quickly as we can.

Q. Will a corrective lash lift hurt?

A. No. Lash lifting is a completely painless treatment. You'll feel the solutions being applied and the lashes being brushed, but there's no discomfort involved.

Q. How long will it take for my lashes to go back to normal?

A. If a corrective lift isn't possible and we recommend waiting, the damaged lashes will shed naturally as part of your lash growth cycle. This typically takes around 6 to 8 weeks. New lashes growing in will not be affected by what happened to the previous ones.

Q. Is it safe to do another lash lift so soon after a bad one?

A. It depends entirely on the condition of the lashes. We don't take a one-size-fits-all approach here. If the lashes can handle it, a corrective treatment using a gentle cysteamine-based system is a reasonable option. If they can't, we won't attempt it. That's what the consultation and photo assessment are for.
